POSITION OVERVIEW
Mikell Camp and Conference Center is seeking a dedicated and organized Assistant Food Service Manager to support the daily operations of our kitchen and dining services. Nestled in the Northeast Georgia mountains, Mikell serves churches, schools, nonprofits, and retreat groups year-round.
The Assistant Food Service Manager plays a key role in ensuring guests receive high-quality meals and a welcoming dining experience. This position works closely with the Food Service Manager to coordinate food preparation, supervise staff, and maintain a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment that supports Mikell’s mission of hospitality, spiritual formation, and community engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Kitchen & Dining Operations
- Assist with daily kitchen operations including meal preparation and service
- Help coordinate food production for camps, retreats, and conference groups
- Ensure food quality, consistency, and timely service
- Support menu planning that accommodates large groups and dietary needs
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, serving areas, and storage spaces
Supervision & Leadership

Assist in supervising kitchen staff, part-time employees, and volunteers

Help schedule staff and coordinate meal service coverage

Provide hands-on support during meal preparation and service

Promote teamwork, hospitality, and a positive kitchen culture
Inventory & Food Management

Assist with ordering food, kitchen supplies, and cleaning products

Monitor food inventory and proper storage practices

Help control food costs and minimize waste

Ensure proper labeling, rotation, and storage of food items
Health, Safety & Compliance

Maintain high standards of sanitation and food safety

Ensure compliance with local and state health regulations

Support regular kitchen inspections and safe food handling practices

Maintain a clean and safe work environment for staff and volunteers
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in food service, commercial kitchen operations, or hospitality preferred
- Supervisory or leadership experience is a plus
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods during food preparation and service
- Flexible schedule including weekends and evenings depending on camp programming
PREFERRED
- Experience in camp, retreat center, institutional dining, or conference food service
- ServSafe certification or similar food safety training
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary: $42,000 per year
Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: Employer-paid individual coverage
Family Medical Coverage: Available at employee’s expense
Retirement Contribution: 15% employer contribution
Accruing PTO based on tenure with the company, 40 hours of sick time, and 12 paid holidays
