“My heart is in many places with various causes and people. But, first and foremost it is with Camp Mikell–my second home, my “thin place” as known in the Celtic tradition, and the place that made me who I am. From my arrival as a camper in fifth grade to an almost retiree now serving on the Board of Governors, Camp Mikell is where I see God, feel God and know that God is present for those who visit for summer camp, conferences, nature and art experiences or just sitting in a rocking chair watching the birds fly through the hills. I know firsthand that all financial gifts are used 100% for the good of the camp to ensure it is safe and welcoming. It’s a “bare bones” kind of place which not only provides a unique sense of charm, but also a place where financial gifts make a substantial difference each day with every load of gravel for the paths, every HVAC repair and each new 4-square ball for the campers. Just driving onto the property makes my heart feel as if it will burst from my chest as I know both the real life hugs from friends and the sense of hugs from those who came before me will renew me in whatever state of mental exhaustion I may be in at the moment. I give my money and time out of thanksgiving and with tears of gratitude for the community that God has built at Camp Mikell.”
