Unleash Your Creativity This Fall at Allan Folk School!
For more than a quarter of a century, the Allan Folk School at Camp Mikell has been a cherished autumn tradition, drawing makers, dreamers, and lifelong learners to the mountains of North Georgia. Founded in 2000 by the late Bishop Frank Allan, his wife Elizabeth, and Glenna Smith, the Folk School is rooted in the spirit of the Danish Folk School movement—a place where anyone can discover creativity, pick up a new skill, and belong, regardless of experience or background.
This Fall’s Gathering: More Options Than Ever!
This year’s program offers more choices and new adventures than ever before! Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned crafter, there’s something here for you. Explore timeless skills and modern artistry with friendly, encouraging instructors who make everyone feel at home. Bring a friend (or make new ones!) as you dive into a weekend of creativity and fun.
Try Something New—Or Revisit a Favorite Craft:
- Paint your own Barn Quilt to brighten up a wall or porch (NEW!)
- Discover the stories and artistry of Cherokee Lore (NEW!)
- Weave history into fiber with Coiled Baskets
- Fire up your imagination in Copper Enameling—create art and jewelry
- Stitch your own sampler in Embroidery in a Stitch Book (NEW!)
- Bring a character to life with Folk Hand Puppets (NEW!)
- Master the basics with Knitting or start knitting your own socks!
- Discover (or deepen) your skills in Quilting—beginners welcome!
- Let light shine through your work in Stained Glass (Beginner to Advanced)
- Express yourself in Watercolors
- Try your hand at Weaving practical and beautiful cotton towels
- Learn the elegant art of Woodturning
- Start your day centered with Rise ‘n Shine Yoga (NEW!)
- Or simply enjoy an Independent Study and soak in the creative energy all weekend
All Are Welcome—No Experience Needed!
Don’t think you have to be “an artist” to join in—most participants aren’t, and you’ll find plenty of encouragement as you try something new. Supplies are provided for most classes, and you’re invited to bring your spirit of curiosity (and maybe a friend or two). Come discover just how much fun a creative weekend can be!
